Easy and Tasty Idiyappam Recipe

                             Easy and Tasty  Idiyappam Recipe



Ingredients: 

  • Rice flour – 1 cup (preferably idiyappam flour or roasted fine rice flour)
  • Water – 1¼ cups (approx.)
  • Salt – ¼ tsp
  • Oil or ghee – 1 tsp
  • Fresh grated coconut – ¼ cup (optional, for topping)

Method:

1. Boil the Water

  •    Bring water to a rolling boil in a saucepan. Add salt and oil or ghee to it.

2. Make the Dough

  •   Take the rice flour in a wide bowl.
  •      Pour the hot water little by little into the flour while mixing with a spoon or spatula (be careful –  it's hot!).
  • Once it's warm enough to handle, knead it into a soft, smooth, non-sticky dough. It should be pliable, like chapati dough.

3. Press the Idiyappam

  • Grease the idiyappam press (string hopper maker) and your steaming plates or idli plates lightly.
  • Fill the dough into the press and squeeze it out in circular motions onto the greased plates.
  • Optionally, sprinkle some grated coconut on top.

4. Steam the Idiyappam

  • Place the plates in a steamer or idli cooker.
  • Steam for about 8–10 minutes on medium heat.
  • Once done, remove and let it rest for a minute before lifting the idiyappam.

To Serve:

  • For savoury: Serve hot with vegetable stew, kurma, or egg curry.
  • For sweet: Drizzle with fresh coconut milk and jaggery syrup or sugar.
